You can watch the Olympic Games on Youtube, but…
August 5, 2008 – 6:37 am… only in 77 countries.
Only viewers from some selected countries are allowed to view the upcoming Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing. People visiting the Youtube Website will given or denied access to a special Olympic Channel based on their IP address. So if You live in the wrong country the free Olympics won’t be so free. Enjoy paying for Your national exclusive broadcaster.
I’m from _________, am I allowed to watch the Olympic Games?
Basically this easy to answer. Only viewers from countries where no exclusive deal with a broadcasting company has been made can watch the Olympic Games on Youtube. Responsible for the regulation of valuable broadcasting rights is the International Olympic Committee. Although they are focused on money and revenues, they decided people from countries without any official broadcaster should be able to watch the Olympic Games 2008 as well, and their decision is that Youtube is the right choice to broadcast these Games to such countries.
While in Western countries normally exclusive contracts have been made, this is untrue for most third world countries. Free Youtube Broadcasting is available in several Asian and African countries. Also people living in the Near East have a high chance of free Olympic Games. India, South Korea and Indonesia are among those who can enjoy Youtube broadcasted Olympic Games this summer.

Those people who are in a country where exclusive deals are in place can try to use a Internet Proxy Service to circumvent the regulations in place, however we advise You to not do so, as this would be illegal. Here is a List of Proxy websites: proxy-list.org.
That being said, there is probably no better place for the Olympics than China. The IOC decision resembles the Chinese duality of Communism and Free Market Economy almost perfectly. Free watching for the poor masses has been the slogan for many years in China. Then the decision to give those paying exclusive right holders their freedom of making a huge profit perfectly resembles the new way of thinking in Mainland China. Money First!
China is still said to be a communist country, but thats only a shadow from the past left on paper. Today China has probably one of the most unregulated markets on this planet. Although the Chinese Communist party is not wanted by everyone because of human right violations, China might be a place to become rich quick.

Well, China’s actually not that unregulated – you can’t buy land and you also gotta pay quite high taxes. There are high fees on importing certain products such as cars or some other goods Chinese gov wants to be produced in China. And yet there is no way to buy Chinese companies as a foreigner, even if they say there was. Latest example Mittal-Arcelor wanted to buy a Chinese steel company.
So in conclusion, it’s far easier to become rich in (for my case) Switzerland or other countries where you can be sure that what is yours will still be yours tomorrow.
