Sex is vulgar, ill-minded and misleading
May 19, 2009 – 9:26 amMy last article was about a Sex theme park in Chongqing. The sudden media attention of this place spread into the government head offices of the city as well. Guess what happened?
The Chongqing officials behaved like Chinese officials behave. Sex is so bad, so vulgar, so ….. well, we all should apply in a monastery and follow the way of the monks. BBC reports that the park had been demolished by the officials, because it misleads the people.
I believe, the officials are right. Ordinary people shouldn’t go to the sex theme park. Instead they should visit the party bosses and go with them to the KTVs in the evening to attend the sex parties there, which are organized with the peoples tax money.

I should invent some kind of award, which I can give to governments, officials and other dickheads, when they fuck up. Similar to the Wet Pussy Award of Mylaowai.
Update: a wonderful quote about this issue:
“It had an evil influence on society and had to be torn down immediately.”

Wouldn’t it be easier to simply give an award to those politicians who haven’t fucked up (yet)? It would be a far shorter list of names…

There are people who don’t know how to avoid pregnancy. There are others who don’t know how to bring it about. Sex is misleading when people don’t know what they are doing.

I thought the government wanted to build this, why are they now demolishing it? It seems so stupid. I didn’t like the idea in the first place and now it seems they outdone themselves once more. Wow. Stupidity doesn’t stop with them. They have huge issues with sex. Well, who doesn’t? But making it a taboo, helps the least. And awkward approaches like that, even more. You made a great point about the KTV parties, Junjie.

Where did they say the government wants to build that? Do You ever watch any sports event? Then You will hear something like: The USA got 3 gold medals, etc. But is it really the USA that got 3 gold medals? Same misleading thing here. They don’t know who exactly built the park, so they just wrote China as a placeholder.

Are you angry, Junjie? Maybe I read the BBC article too fast and thought China is meant to be the government. I appologize for that.

Methinks this thread reminded Junjie of some overdue alimony.

Not angry, but think about it. What would the average reader, who doesn’t speak a single word of Chinese, think if he encounters the Sentence: “zhege gongsi just opend a new theme park” They would be like WTF. It’s a common theme in the modern media to say “Somecountry just did this and that” while in reality it is a totally private operation.
But it is indeed one of the reasons why I rarely read the established media. They always put the things in the wrong way. I’m indeed disappointed with the mass media.
Alimony? Me? No way!

I think we need to build our own mix of information sources. Some established media are a must, because they are still the originators of most news. Investigative journalism is mostly the job of established media, too.
But as the quality of mass media is declining, we-the-users need to become more media-savvy at the same time…

Unfortunately it’s the source of a lot of misunderstandings. Like last year when many Chinese people were particularly angry about the German media.

I tell you, when they say ‘China is about to build something’ I always think the government is involved, I’m just used to this. They should phrase like ‘In China a private investor will build’ and there wouldn’t be any misunderstandings. Thanx for clarifying that, Junjie. And I have to add, I still don’t like the idea of this park, on the other hand I don’t like that the government tears it down just like that. On the other hand, don’t you think initially someone from the government must have approved this park and got some money in his pocket? I don’t know… I’m just rambling.

There is a lot of material written about this case in Chinese, just google for 性公园 重庆. My Chinese is just not good enough to read it fluently, so I stick to my 汉语风 beginners book
(I have to write about this book, once I finish it)

汉语风… googling it…
