Kunming
March 14, 2008 – 2:37 amKunming 昆明市 (Kūnmíng shì) is a huge city in Yunnan province 云南 (Yúnnán). It has more than 3 million residents and can be described as quite large. However Kunming is not as modern as the more well know cities like Shanghai or Beijing.
Kunming is in the South of China. Yunnan province has borders to Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar. Chengdu lies in the north of Kunming. Guangzhou and Hongkong both can be found east of Kunming. It takes about 2 hours by plane from Hongkong to Kunming. If You want to use the cheaper Shenzhen airport to get to Kunming check out this post.

Yunnan provence and Kunming city are in the very south of China.
Kunming is also called Spring City as its temperature around the year is quite convenient. In the winter the nights are quite cold, but as soon as the sun comes out it’s getting pretty hot. The summer is tropical and rainy, which is very nice if You wear contact lenses. No more red eyes.
Although the city is old and dirty it has quite a lot of secrets for everyone who wants to explore this southern Chinese city.

What to see in Kunming
The only real Park in Kunming is Green Lake Park, which is a very big and beautiful one. Lot’s of tea houses, benches for sitting down and nearby Wen Lin Jie.
A trip to the Kunming zoo is a mixed experience, yet I want to list it here.
Around Kunming, in Yunnan
ShiLin stoneforrest : Just 2 hours by bus apart is the Shilin stoneforrest, which makes a good weekend trip.
Nearby Kunming, just outside the city there are many small gems for relaxing. Just ask Your friends, You might find something like this nice lake.
If You want to experience some countryside feeling, I really recommend You to do so. I did a short visit to Xuan Wei, but there are many other small cities or even towns, where almost no Westerner has been before.
I also compiled some ideas on how to get a woman in Kunming (only interesting for my male readers).
