From Hongkong to Kunming
March 11, 2008 – 10:02 amAt Thursday the 6th I went from Hongkong to Kunming. As I wanted to save some money I didn’t use Hongkong airport. Instead I used Shenzhen airport. Getting there is fairly easy, once You know how to.
How to get from HK to Shenzhen airport
There are several ways to get there. I used the bus. First go to Kowloon station / airport express. Then do not go to the trains, but instead go to the bus station. First You need to go upstairs. Then opposite of Starbucks is a small office. At the counter You can buy a ticket which is HK$ 100.
If You ask people there how to get to the bus station to Shenzhen airport, they might send You to the bus station that serves the inner city. Chinese people tend to send You to just any place if they don’t know the place You have asking for. So take care where You go. If You leave the building by foot, then You are definitely wrong.
The ticket lady also gives You a form You have to fill out while You are on the bus. After a while You reach the customs. There You leave the bus with all You baggage. Go through the customs and wait at the other side of the building to pick You up again. After another 15 minutes You arrive at Shenzhen airport.
Another way to get from Hongkong to Shenzhen airport is by using a ferry boat. However I only heard of this but didn’t use it myself. The entrance to the boats is upstairs inside some shopping mall. According to my friend it’s a little tricky to find.
I won’t use German airlines again
At least if some Chinese airline is available. On my flight from Germany to China they complained that my bag is to heavy, then it took them 3 hours (three hours) to serve an evening meal. On my flight from Shenzhen to Kunming, which lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes, they managed to serve warm food and several drinks. And as always, the Chinese airlines never complain about excess baggage. You can have 5 kg excess baggage guaranteed. 10 kg if You smile happily at the counter and greet the lady with 你好!
Building a nest
At the moment I’m a little busy with building a nest to rest here in Kunming. My first impression of Kunming, is that it is a bit old, but yet relaxed. Today the internet company finally managed to bring the internet to my room.
